Google Self Driving Cars Project– Self-driving cars, also known as autonomous cars, require no human intervention to navigate. These cars are capable of environment sensing, meaning they can detect nearby objects such as other cars, traffic lights, and pedestrians, and respond accordingly. Equipped with cameras and sensors, self-driving cars are able to autonomously sense their surroundings, making them an impressive feat of engineering.

Android, an open-source operating system developed for smartphones, has revolutionized the world. Initially designed to bring ease and convenience to our handheld devices, it has now penetrated the automobile industry, with more and more companies conducting research on self-driving cars to get an edge in the market. The impact of Android is profound, and its influence is felt across diverse fields, transforming how we live and work.

Self Driving cars project by Google- Waymo

Google has partnered with major automakers like Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and Lexus, to manufacture cars. Alongside its partners, Google has also developed its own custom vehicle, now known as Waymo. This project, headed by a subsidiary of Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc., is its own separate automobile company dedicated to advancing the technology behind self-driving cars.

Waymo’s self-driving cars will be available on Uber’s app, starting in Phoenix

Alphabet’s self-driving unit, Waymo, inked a strategic partnership with Uber that is expected to last for several years. This deal involves the integration of some of Waymo’s autonomous vehicle technology into Uber’s existing platform.

Waymo’s plan to boost ridership tenfold by next summer could happen sooner than expected. The company recently announced that it will be partnering with a leading ride-hail and delivery platform, which could potentially increase its reach and attract new customers beyond the current Waymo One users. This collaboration is a big step forward for Waymo and is expected to help them solidify their position as a major player in the transportation industry.

The long-standing strategic collaboration between Waymo Via, Waymo’s self-driving trucking subsidiary, and Uber Freight, Uber’s logistics offshoot, is further strengthened by the agreement between Uber and Waymo Via.

Self-driving cars are fitted with an array of gadgets like radar sensors, cameras, and main computers loaded with software such as Android OS to drive. The software processes the route to take and hands it over to the accelerator and steering system. To detect what’s nearby, the cars rely on sensors distributed throughout the vehicle, which can identify everything from cars to pedestrians, poles to street lights.

Benefits of Self Driving Cars:

  1. Safety: Self-driving cars are being developed, primarily to improve road safety and reduce accidents, as more than 40,000 people are reported to lose their lives in road accidents in the US alone. By introducing autonomous vehicles, we can counteract this problem.
  2. Eco-friendly:  Electric vehicles are the eco-friendly choice as they do not produce emissions that contribute to global warming and greenhouse effects. In addition, electric engines reduce air and noise pollution which can cause a range of health problems. Making the switch to a vehicle powered by electricity not only helps you but also helps the environment and those around you.
  3. Comfortable:  Cars can now navigate without driver input. Instead, advanced software and sensors work in sync to ensure safe and smooth driving. Travel with confidence knowing accidents are less likely with this cutting-edge safety technology at your fingertips.
  4. Less congestion: Self-driving cars have a significant advantage that aids in reducing traffic congestion. They communicate with each other, as well as with other surrounding objects and traffic signals, to maneuver through the roads seamlessly.
  5. Affordability: The report states that companies such as Google and Uber are introducing their self-driving cars at more affordable prices when compared to conventional cars.
