1. EV Motor, Power, and Performance

The Solterra is not only powered entirely by electricity, but it also boasts an all-wheel-drive system with two electric motors. These motors work in tandem to produce an impressive total of 215 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque. In terms of drive modes, there are four options: Eco, Normal, Power, and X-mode. The X-mode, specifically designed for slippery or uneven terrains, allows for independent power modulation to each wheel. Off-road enthusiasts will appreciate the Solterra’s 8.3 inches of ground clearance and the “Grip Control” feature that functions like a low-speed cruise control.

The steering wheel paddles provide the flexibility to adjust regenerative braking force. During our drive along Arizona’s ORV trails, the Solterra showcased its capabilities, comfortably tackling various challenges. It even demonstrated its ability to spin donuts on non-paved surfaces by fully deactivating stability control. Additionally, the Solterra can distribute up to 60 percent of its torque to the rear axle.

2. Subaru Solterra Range, Charging, and Battery Life

Subaru announces that the battery pack of the Solterra has a gross capacity of 72.8 kWh. According to their information, models equipped with 18-inch wheels offer a range of 228 miles, while those with 20-inch wheels provide a slightly lower range of 222 miles. By connecting the Solterra to a Level 2 charging station, the onboard 6.6 kWh charger from Subaru is capable of fully recharging the battery in approximately nine hours. Alternatively, utilizing a 100 kW DC fast charger would allow for an 80 percent charge in around 56 minutes.

3. Subaru Solterra Interior

The interior of the Solterra boasts a digital gauge cluster mounted high for easy visibility, complemented by a generous touchscreen for the infotainment system. Adding to the overall appeal, the elevated center console showcases a sleek rotary shift knob. With its steep windshield, expansive side glass, and panoramic sunroof, the cabin exudes a spacious and airy ambiance. The tasteful blend of textures throughout further enhances its captivating aesthetics.

4. Subaru Cargo Space

In addition to its numerous storage compartments, such as the spacious bin beneath the center console, the Solterra proves to be an invaluable travel companion, boasting a generous 30 cubic feet of cargo space when the rear seats are folded flat.

5. Fuel-Economy and Real-World MPGe

The highly anticipated 2023 Solterra is projected to achieve an impressive combined 104 MPGe, as verified by its EPA rating. As soon as we have the chance to take it for a spin on our rigorous 75-mph fuel economy route, a crucial part of our extensive testing process, we will be able to accurately evaluate its real-world MPGe.

6. Infotainment and Connectivity

The Solterra’s infotainment system boasts a centrally positioned 12.3-inch touchscreen. Every model comes equipped with standard features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a wireless phone charger. Additionally, users can conveniently control the HVAC system, pre-condition the cabin, and perform door lock/unlock functions using the smartphone app. Built-in navigation and an upgraded Harman/Kardon-tuned stereo are available as add-ons.

7. Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Subaru provides standard warranty coverage, but unlike the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, they do not offer complimentary scheduled maintenance. Enhancing the writing quality, optimizing word choice, structure, and readability, while preserving the original meaning.

  1. The limited warranty provides coverage for three years or 36,000 miles.
  2. The powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
  3. The warranty guarantees coverage for electrical components up to eight years or 100,000 miles, providing you with peace of mind and long-lasting reliability.

8. Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Solterra boasts an array of standard driver-assistance technologies, including automatic high-beam headlights and, in a first for Subaru, a top-notch 360-degree camera system. For comprehensive crash test results, please visit the official websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
