According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Apple Watch Series 9 will sport a brand new processor – the biggest upgrade for Apple’s wearable devices in over two years. Apple apparently rebranded the previous-gen chip that powered the apple watch Series 7 when the apple watch Series 8 was released last year. The new chip that will power Apple’s forthcoming smartwatch models is rumored to be based on the same chip inside their iPhone 13.

Apple Watch Series 9 Update

In a Discord channel dedicated to subscribers of his weekly Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed that Apple will not be rebranding the processor in the next Apple Watch. Instead, Gurman claimed that the Series 9 will feature a “new” processor likely based on the A15 Bionic chip found in the iPhone 13. Gurman also confirmed the same when asked by a subscriber.

Apple maintains a strict policy of not revealing hardware or software changes until release, but its next smartwatch could potentially be improved by a brand-new processor based on the 5nm A15 Bionic chip. The chip could enhance performance, optimize battery efficiency, and extend the longevity of the device.

Apple is reportedly revamping the interface design of watchOS 10 alongside the upcoming Series 9. According to Gurman’s Power On newsletter, a widget-focussed design would make the interface more user-friendly. This means less need to navigate the small display to access even more information at a glance.

Apple Watch Series9 Launch

Although the Apple Watch Series 9 won’t arrive until H2 2023, Apple’s anticipated roll-out of watchOS 10 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference next month is generating buzz. The event, starting on June 5, is also expected to unveil updates to iOS 17, macOS 14, iPadOS 17, and tvOS 17.

Overall, the conference promises to be an exciting one with many highly-anticipated products to be announced.
